Privacy notice

Last updated 2 November 2026. This describes a limited beta for South African applicants; applications and private supporting documents are not publicly visible. Actual donations and financial payouts are not enabled.

Controller / responsible party

Bored Billionaires is an early-stage South African-founded platform under development. The final legal operator and Information Officer registration are pending formal setup. For privacy, corrections or fraud reports, use the contact and rights request form. Do not submit government ID numbers, full banking details or documents via that contact form.

Information we collect

If you register, we use your confirmed email address and an authentication identifier. A debt application includes your private full legal name, creditor name, public alias, public story, debt category, country, currency, amount, statement date and consent attestations. Optional supporting proof may contain further personal financial information and should be carefully redacted. Inquiries collect the email and message you voluntarily provide. Our hosting, authentication and storage services may maintain technical security logs.

Purpose and legal basis

We process information for account login, validating that an applicant owns the debt, investigating duplicate or fraudulent submissions, managing a limited debt-matching pilot, receiving and responding to rights requests, and—only after manual review and your consent—publishing a sanitized debt summary. Applications are not published automatically. Applicants may withdraw or request correction; some security or legally necessary records may need to be retained.

Sharing and international transfers

Public visitors see only manually approved aliases, descriptions, debt category, country and approximate USD goals. We do not publish raw statements, bank account numbers or the applicant's private legal name. We use Netlify for the website and contact forms, Supabase for authentication, database and private file storage (currently EU Central hosting), and a reference exchange-rate data provider. Services and their subprocessors may process information outside South Africa; POPIA's cross-border requirements must be evaluated and enforced by the responsible operator before unrestricted launch. Creditor verification requires applicant authority and may involve sharing the minimum necessary personal details with the relevant creditor.

Security

Account access requires verified email authentication. Applicant records use database row-level access policies; evidence storage is private and restricted to the applicant and explicitly designated reviewers. File formats and size are restricted, but **uploads are not automatically malware scanned**, so submitting a document does not mean it has been verified or declared safe. Manual checks and documented retention procedures are required. No payment card data is collected by this app.

Retention and rights

You may request access, correction, withdrawal or erasure, subject to applicable legal and anti-fraud retention needs, through the signed-in account portal or the contact form. We aim to acknowledge inquiries promptly; a final retention schedule and processing agreements will be completed before open public launch. If a record is already approved for publication, we can pause the public listing while assessing a withdrawal request. You may also contact South Africa's Information Regulator.

No funds collected

There is no donations checkout, stored balance, escrow, card payment, payout, or automatic debt settlement on this site. Expressions of interest are not binding promises to pay.
