Transparency before payments

USD giving.
South African accountability.

Everything we want donors and applicants to know before the first contribution is accepted.

1. USD is the display currency

For South African obligations, the legally owed amount remains in ZAR. The USD equivalent is an estimate based on the displayed reference rate and date. Reference data comes from Frankfurter. It does not include PayPal fees, receiving fees, withdrawal fees, spreads, card-provider rates, delays or changes in the creditor balance.

2. No donor payments are active

This website is a public preview. It does not charge cards, accept money, send payments, hold escrow funds or pass money to third parties. Do not send funds to any account or person claiming to represent Bored Billionaires until an official approved payment facility is published with clear terms.

3. South African founder pilot

The intended first campaign is a private individual's verified debt-relief request. It is not a registered charity, public-benefit organisation or tax-deductible donation. Whether the receiving PayPal account can be used for this specific purpose must be confirmed with PayPal and the South African withdrawal arrangement before activation.

4. No blanket worldwide availability

People anywhere may view the concept, but donor payment methods and eligible countries will depend on payment-provider approvals, sanctions controls, applicable law and compliance checks. Not all countries or currencies will necessarily be supported.

5. Source documents remain private

Bank statements and creditor letters must not be shared in public profiles, form descriptions or email links. Before accepting private uploads we must implement authenticated accounts, restricted encrypted storage, access logs, retention and deletion rules, malware scanning, data-processing agreements and a complete privacy notice.

6. No financial or debt counselling

The service does not give regulated financial advice, negotiate debt, restructure credit, provide debt counselling, extend credit or promise repayment. These services may require separate registrations in South Africa.

7. Donations, refunds and disputes — future policy

Before fundraising, we will publish the recipient identity and relationship to the operator, specific purpose and goal, applicable payment fees, refund/dispute rules, overfunding policy, exchange-rate treatment, chargeback handling and independent reconciliation process. A contribution will not count as debt extinguished until independently evidenced by repayment records.

8. Tax, exchange control and compliance

South African PayPal receipts generally must be withdrawn to an eligible local account within 30 days and cannot be used as an informal balance-transfer service. Foreign-sourced gifts, business revenue, tax treatment, donor-tax responsibilities and cross-border receipts require fact-specific professional advice. No tax deduction is promised. If the platform later handles third-party payments, we must obtain advice on payment-service, FICA/AML, consumer and crowdfunding obligations before launch.

This is a practical pre-launch disclosure, not legal advice or a representation that the service has regulatory approval. Payment functionality stays off pending written provider confirmation and professional review.
